Protecting Our Landscape
Conserving the natural environment and cultural heritage of our region requires
many tools and working partnerships. Three Valley Conservation Trust is an emerging
leader in landscape-level resource protection, promoting policies and land uses
that safeguard our watersheds and implement environmentally-sound approaches
to community development.
Watershed Protection
Western Tributaries Watershed Project —
Three
Valley Conservation Trust sponsors the Lower Great Miami River-Western Tributaries
Watershed Project. This project is a collaboration of organizations, government
agencies, elected officials, and citizens that identify water quality issues,
set protection or restoration goals for our streams, and implement projects to
reach these goals. The project is funded in part by a grant from the Ohio
Department of Natural Resources and donations from
project partners. For more information please
contact the Trust office.
Twin Creek Conservation Area Plan —
Conserving the natural environment and cultural
heritage of our landscape is best accomplished through working partnerships.
Through a grant request, the Trust draws on the experience and resources of The
Nature Conservancy to build effective, measurable conservation strategies for
the Twin Creek watershed, one of the most ecologically-sound streams in Ohio.
Community Advising
Throughout
southwest Ohio, growth and development impose ever-increasing demands on our
natural resources and greatly impact the quality of human life. Three Valley
Conservation Trust advocates planned growth, rather than sprawl, as a means to
limit the loss of farmland, preserve open space, and protect our natural resources.
The Trust offers its rich diversity of resource professionals, partnerships, and other
talents to assist with public and private-sector development and conservation
projects. Examples of the Trust's ongoing participation in our community's
affairs include:
- Contributions to zoning reform, development standards, and land-use planning
at county, township, and municipal levels.
- Development of Ohio's farmland preservation program
- Promotion of conservation development projects in our service area
- Acquisition of new parklands and purchase of conservation easements as buffers to
parkland areas.
